Got safely through the first 'OMG what on earth am I writing' week. Characters are interacting, and developing into viable people. Subplots are being hatched (or at least some characters seem to think they are). Even I don't know whether some of them are bad guys or good guys (no hats here, so hard to tell black vs. white).
Was up at midnight last night, writing the first and last chapters of a totally different story. They were just there, and so clear, and I knew I wouldn't sleep until I gave them a place to live. Worried over writing time and words not dedicated to NaNo. So took some of my own advice, and plugged all 2500 words into the NaNo Novel as a dream for my FMC. And holy cow, I realized it actually fit!! A warning from 2000 years before, that not all surprise finds are treasures!!
That also inspired a dream sequence for my MMC, with an unexpected appearance by yours truly. Not as dire as the other. Just a wish for a happy hunt.
And then in a burst of brilliant inspiration, I devised a horribly suspenseful countdown for the ship leaving the space station ... took nearly 4 pages and had me holding my breath!! And then, since they had to pull some fancy evasive maneuvers to avoid detection, they had an even longer count "up" to turning the ship and hitting the jump drive. It was terribly exciting, and did wonders for my word count.
44,036 ... 2,036 ahead of schedule. And another 5-hour marathon session tomorrow.
I'm having a blast. I wish every month was National Novel Writing Month!!
